AquAeTer’s Sustainability Division works with our clients to achieve their sustainability goals, whether it’s accounting for greenhouse gas emissions or performing life cycle analyses of manufactured products. We develop our sustainability models for use by our clients. By so doing, our clients understand the model’s inventory process and assessment parameters and are able to make adjustments as conditions at their facility change.

Biostimulation

AquAeTer was asked to design, implement, and monitor an in-situ aerobic bio-stimulation technique for the bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) for a remote, unconfined, shallow groundwater location. A passive, gravity-fed inoculation system was designed to continuously apply AquAeTer’s patented bio-stimulant though a series of injection wells.
Brownfield Redevelopment

A real estate developer was evaluating properties to be developed into a commercial retail location. Rather than develop on a Greenfield site, the client wanted to re-develop on existing Brownfield site that was formerly used as a gas station. AquAeTer conducted a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) which identified the possibility of unknown underground storage tanks (USTs) on the subject property.

AquAeTer was asked to review a proposed technical design for a wastewater treatment system upgrade at a pulp and paper mill. The mill’s existing treatment system included a very large facultative lagoon that was overloaded and operating primarily as an anaerobic lagoon. Because the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) had a concentration limit of less than 5 mg/L for BOD5, the client was looking for innovative and sustainable solutions to meeting this stringent effluent limit.
Life Cycle Assessment

AquAeTer is conducting Life-Cycle Assessments (LCA) of treated wood products. The purpose of the LCAs is to quantitatively evaluate environmental impacts associated with the national production, use, and disposal of the treated wood products. The LCAs examine the environmental impacts of various products throughout their life cycles, from the extraction of the raw materials through processing, transport, primary service life, reuse, and recycling or disposal of the product.

AquAeTer was retained by an industry group to support their efforts in developing a Sustainability Strategy. The intent of the initiative was to enhance the future of the industry by the promotion and education of the sustainable production, use, and reuse of the industry’s products. The sustainability program focused on three aspects of sustainability; including environmental, social, and economical.
