AquAeTer was retained by HOVENSA, a joint venture between Amerada Hess and Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), to conduct a design review of a proposed new activated sludge facility.  HOVENSA operates a world-class merchant refinery in St Croix, USVI. The facility is one of the most modern refineries in the United States and, with crude oil processing capacity of 495,000 barrels per day (BPD), is one of the largest in the world.

AquAeTer was retained by a pulp and paper mill to comply with future effluent limitations for nitrogen discharge. The project initially involved evaluation of the current plant performance data.  Our technical staff proceeded with wastewater characterization and the application of the Eckenfelder model on kinetic biological treatment for nitrification/denitrification.

AquAeTer was asked to review a proposed technical design for a wastewater treatment system upgrade at a pulp and paper mill.  The mill’s existing treatment system included a very large facultative lagoon that was overloaded and operating primarily as an anaerobic lagoon.  Because the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) had a concentration limit of less than 5 mg/L for BOD5, the client was looking for innovative and sustainable solutions to meeting this stringent effluent limit.
